The great South Pacific” offers moments of cheerful entertainment unforgettable songs such as “There Is Nothin’ Like a Dame” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” spirited comic scenes charged by the pent-up energy of the bored Navy “Seabees" and the scheming island entrepreneur Bloody Mary, deliberately and adorably amateurish dance routines. A fine balance of modesty, slyly understated sexiness be suitable a mainstream, mid-20th-century hit. On the other hand, the show’s core concerns are serious it builds up an exquisite tension in the life-and-death stakes of one of the plot’s main devices (a spy mission to a Japanese-held island nearby, at a time when World War II still is going badly for the Allies), makes subtle yet powerful points about the social roots of injustice and the costs of war, strikes particularly poetic notes about the universal human hunger for happiness. Lincoln Center Theater, in association with Bob Boyett and NETworks Presentations, presents a new production of Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein's prize-winning musical SOUTH PACIFIC, directed by Bartlett Sher. Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC makes its Denver first appearance at the Buell Theater, playing July 20-August 1 as part of Denver Center Attractions 2010 Season.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC swept the 2008 Tony Awards, winning seven honors including Best Musical Revival and Best Director for Bartlett Sher. This breathtaking new production has created a sold-out sensation on Broadway, lauded by the critics as "Simply Wonderful! Beguiling theatrical magic!" (New York Post), "Ravishing and overwhelming" (Variety) and "Rapturous and revelatory!" (The New York Times). Based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacific, Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan.

Nowadays everybody thinks they have seen the genuine 'South Pacific' only because its songs exist in the combined American unconscious," wrote Frank Rich in The New York Times a couple of months after the musicals celebrated return to Broadway in 2008. That's a very New York kind of view which only a Broadway production counts as the real thing. But the success of this revival, won seven 2008 Tony Awards, is evidence not just to the 1949 Rodgers & Hammerstein classic's enduring reputation as arguably the best of all American musicals but to its contemporary relevance and significance. The show's national tour begins a six-night stint in the Broadway Across America series at the Keller Auditorium on Tuesday. Measured as complete entertainment, it offers plenty, the colorful setting and costumes, two convincing romances and songs as memorable as "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair," sung here by Carmen Cusack in the central role of Nellie Forbush. But what the show demonstrates about the costs of war and prejudice is as much a part of its lasting legacy. Opens 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, continues 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 7, plus 2 p.m. Aug. 7, 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8, Keller Auditorium.
SOUTH PACIFIC is a popular musical that can definitely be tagged as being one of the greatest musicals in the history. The music is simply awesome and has been given by the talented Richard Rodgers. The lyrics have been penned by Oscar Hammerstein II whereas the book has been given by both Hammerstein and Joshua Logan. Severa of its musical numbers have managed to make it big all across the world. Some of these hit singles include the songs "Bali Ha'i," the popular "I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair," the catchy "Some Enchanted Evening," "Happy Talk," the infectious "Younger than springtime," and last but not the least "I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy."
The story of this musical has been set in the island paradise and has been set in the times of the Second World War
It tells the story of two couples side by side that are threatened by the dangers of both prejudice and the prevalent war. Nellie, that is the character of a spunky nurse who comes from Arkansas, falls head over heels in love with a mature planter named Emile of French origin. Nellie comes to learn the fact that the mother of his children had been an island native and owing to the fact that she is not able to turn her back on all the prejudices that she had to deal when she had been growing up, she refuses to accept Emile's proposal of marriage. In the meantime these same feelings that are preventing Nellie to accept Emile’s proposal are also stopping Lt. Joe Cable into denying him a lovely future that he could have with an innocent Tonkinese girl that he loves. Emile is eventually recruited in order to accompany Joe on a mission that is not only dangerous but eventually will also result in affecting the lives of many.
“South Pacific” has been set in a world of black and white (which is a reference to not only the understanding of both good and bad but also of the progressive racial themes. There is a startling difference between this play “South Pacific” and the “Bengal Tiger.” The main characters as has been aforementioned are hat of a rugged French plantation owner named Emile de Becque (played by Gilfry) and Nellie Forbush (played by the talented Cusack), a Navy nurse who hails from the Little Rock in Arkansas.

Some of the songs that are much popular are Nellie’s “A Cockeyed Optimist” and Emile’s song titled “Some Enchanted Evening,” that manages to express a love that does not require any kind of elaboration in order to feel genuine. This modern musical tends to rely on not only elaborate sets and also special effects. Get your cheap south pacific tickets before they sold out.

The South Pacific is believed to be one of the best musicals around. The performance at the Belleville Theatre Guild is going to this seasons’ finale. The respective play that is "South Pacific," had managed to get off to a great start and had been equally appreciated by the audience and critics. It had been the guild's annual musical that has been a tradition for the past many years. This show has been brought to the Broadway stage by both Rodgers and Hammerstein, and is almost 60 years old. It continues to arise much enthusiasm amongst the audiences and also its performers who are as excited. It has a huge cast plus awesome music.
The story begins with Belleville balladeer named John O'Connor, who is a splendid choice to play the character of the aging French planter named Emile de Becque. It is this character that gets to sing the lovely song titled "Some Enchanted Evening." As for the main female character that is of the Nurse Nellie Forbush, it has been played by the talented Sherri Tipper who is simply spectacular in this role. She has a clear and a ringing voice. We have our fingers crossed that she will be seen sometime in the near future in some other musical production. Joseph Pockaj plays the role of the comedic and the mischievous Luther Billis to perfection. The play has been directed by David Kidd who has done a splendid job.

Hey guys,

Come the Finals and your hearts skips a beat, two of the greatest Giants of the league clash against each other, we all pick our side, my heart goes with LA; but deep down I know it will be a hard battle. This could switch either way. The Celtics have won 16 NBA championships; the Lakers have won 14 -- which means these two clubs have won nearly half of the league's 61 titles. Neither invented the game, but both defined it, refined it, and made it relevant. They are the pillars on which the league rests, and getting them to meet in the Finals for the first time in 21 years is a Godsend for the league and for all of us.

Leaving you with that. I’ll let you on this handy need to have mobile application I was made aware off. Three days back a close friend of my introduced me to this AWESOME mobile app which streams live scores on to my phone, I said to myself, “Whoa how come I didn’t have this before?”

Since then I have been completely hooked on it... for live score updates for all the games in progress, info about my favorite teams – schedules, standings, breaking news, the whole work at a glance no matter where I go. The latest info is automatically pushed to the phone. I have been finding this a really handy to stay in touch with all the coverage surrounding the game while I am on the go, trust me when I say “I haven’t missed a game ever since”.

It’s a free app and you can get it by visiting http://nba.plusmo.com on your phone.
I am all geared up for the upcoming NBA Finals in June. Have definitely scored a 3pointer with this mobile app, just mimicking Kobe.

I read where Pat Riley said he would consider trading the #2 pick- and the Sonics have a ridiculous number of picks over the next 3 years to play with. Here's the scenario- Hey Miami, you guys are rebuilding a really piece of crap team- here's what we have to offer. Swap your 2 pick for our 4, and you can have any two players on our roster not named Durant or Green, and what the hell- we'll throw in a first round pick for next year. From there it should be pretty easy to swap with Chicago- Offer our OTHER first round pick this year and the not so terrible prospect of Beasley. This could really work- and I think making moves like this is EXACTLY why Presti has been stockpiling draft picks since he took the job.

Anyway, I'm not the most experienced Sonics fan but I am pretty upset about the whole fiasco that's going on right now. One thing that bugs me is that a lot of the blogs and fansites somehow get populated with really rude people who say really immature things about Oklahoma, etc...
I don't think it's necessary so I wanted to make a bumper sticker that is not quite so mean but still has my sentiments. I have a link and picture but I don't want to put it here or I'll seem like I'm advertising. I just did them on Cafe Press.
I just want to say, let's see if we can tone down some of the rudeness. IT really makes Seattle look bad. I hope that doesn't happen on this forum
